UNESCO Associated School Project network (ASP net)
The ASPnet (UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network) work in support of peace and international cooperation to achieve the ideals set forth in the UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) Charter. As of February 2012, more than 9,000 educational institutions in 180 member states are participating in the ASPnet. Of these there are 369 pre-schools, elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools and teacher training colleges and universities from Japan.
UNESCO Associated Schools work in the four basic fields;
(1)Understanding of UN system to address global issue
(2)Understanding and promotion of human rights and democracy
To foster people who can deal with these global issues, we are working on ESD aiming at developing teaching contents and methods.
ESD(Education for Sustainable Development) is the education of people who lead and contribute sustainable society. Nowadays, we have various problems such as conflict, poverty, overpopulation, shortage of food and water, AIDS, economic crisis, racial and sexual discrimination, environmental pollution, and so on. Also, energy problem is one of the problems we cannot ignore. In order to rear people who lead to solve such problems, as a UNESCO Associated School, we are carrying out ESD, especially "international understanding education" and "environmental education".
